At first I have to say that I really enjoyed the time in Córdoba. I enjoyed it because of the nice city and the friendly atmosphere at work.
At the beginning I had the opportunity to join a language course to refresh and improve my Spanish. This is the first thing I am glad for, the other things are the relaxed working atmosphere and a lot of help during my stay here in Córdoba. I had some opportunity to learn about how business runs and what has to be done not to lose competition. I really understood that it is necessary to have a company meeting to see how things are developing and where are difficulties at work. The next thing I have learned is that you should try to find some new ways to get in contact with potential clients, like we did with the “Speed-chatting” in Córdoba, which turned out to a continuous meeting every 2 weeks where you always can meet new people or you find people who participated in the previous meetings.
Furthermore, I experienced how much competition is in the market of language schools, so you always have to find new ways to attract people. You have to offer a serious language course that includes more than just sitting in classes and learn grammar and vocabulary. You have to be inventive to find the right composition of studying in classes and having some additional activities which help to understand language and culture, because without understanding culture and without interest in Spanish things, like food or party habits you cannot feel the language.
I think I could get some of everything, I always tried to eat what Spaniards did, drink what they did and see as most of culture and places as possible and I liked it. I can only say it was very impressive to see how open minded Spaniards are, I was invited to some parties, like our “Company Christmas Dinner” that I really enjoyed although I couldn’t participate as much as I would have liked because of some language barriers, but this just showed me that I have to keep on learning Spanish to get more out of such situations.
I would really like to have such a nice stay again when I come back to Spain, I am sure I will, maybe in the same place – Córdoba.
